FEBRUARY 14: ST. VALENTINE'S DAY

Chocolate

It is soft, delicious and sublime, besides of being seductive and exquisite to the palate. Millions of people  in the whole wide world are passionate for chocolate. Nevertheless, not many people know that chocolate is a rich source of feeding copper.

The nut of the tree of cacao is naturally rich in copper and fortunately great part  of copper is retained when the nut is processed in cacao or chocolate.  A bar of dark chocolate that weighs 03 onzes (85 grams) can contain 0.75 milligrams of copper, while a bar of white chocolate of the same weight, can contain 0,18 milligrams of copper, is equivalent to 20% of the daily dose recommended for adolescents and adults.

North Americans who eat chocolate get around 10% of the copper that is inserted in some chocolate products  and in some cases, people get more than 50% of copper from products elaborated with chocolate, that are consumed daily.

After all this information, we should not have a sense of guilt every time we have chocolates, given to us as a present on Valentine’s Day.

If we worry about additional calories, we can obtain enough copper eating nuts, raisins, seafood, liver and vegetables.
