HELP
PREVENT ELECTRICAL ACCIDENTS AT HOME AND AT WORK

REDUCE THE RISK OF ELCTROCUTION
MAKE
SURE YOUR HOME HAS A GROUND PROTECTION SYSTEM

When you buy your electrical appliances, do not eliminate
the third conductor, or the ground connection (cables
and plugs with three prongs), because they protect your
life and your appliances.
IN APPLIANCES THAT CONSUME SMALL AMOUNTS OF ELECTRICITY

Blenders, vacuum cleaners, hand beaters, electric knives,
portable home appliances, television sets, VCRs, radios,
computers, fax equipment, etc.: having a third conductor,
or grounding connection, reduces the possibility of getting
an electrical shock.
IN APPLIANCES THAT CONSUME LARGE
AMOUNTS OF ELECTRICITY

Refrigerators, water heaters, clothes washers and dryers,
etc.: make sure that they have thicker cables (bigger
diameter) than those commonly used for appliances that
consume less electricity. In this way you will prevent
the generation of excess heat and energy loss. By saving
energy, you are saving money.
IN APPLIANCES WITH HOT AREAS

Stoves, irons, coffee makers, ovens, heaters, etc.: they
should all have cables with a third conductor or ground
connection, with insulation to resist high temperatures
and prevent them from melting.
EXTENSION
CORDS

When you plug in any of the above appliances to an extension
cord, make sure it has three prongs. Otherwise, the protection
of the third conductor, or ground connection, is lost.
As a general rule, an extension cord should have the same
diameter or thickness as the cable of the appliance you
are going to connect.
