Nowadays,
copper is also utilized in aerospace technology, thus, for example,
the interior covering of the combustion chamber of propellers
of Ariane 5 consist in a copper, silver and zirconium alloy. The
shuttle is made of an aluminum alloy structure, which contains
copper. The electric system of NASA's space shuttle utilizes copper
covered with nickel and silver. Copper alloys are standard materials
used in portable structures of satellites. Solar cells are place
in solar energy collector blades, which include, among other materials,
copper.
The new technology
of processors for computers includes copper chips. IBM company
includes 8100 copper processors in its computer model RS/6000
SP which are capable to process 12,300' calculations per second,
with an estimated velocity of more than 30 times than that of
a personal computer.
The
chemical industry knows how to appreciate the outstanding resistance
to corrosion and thermal conductivity of this material. For those
same reasons and due to the strict demands on hygiene, food and
beverage industries utilize copper more frequently.
