EDITORIAL

Procobre
proudly introduces its third Bulletin with interesting information
in each of its sections. In the international section, you will
find a thoughtful article about the defense of copper use. Gradually,
we keep informing about the organization situation in Peru.
Not only in Lima but also in the rest of the country we keep
being active in our four action lines, namely the traditional
campaigns of copper applications.
Likewise, since a wide universe exists where presence exists
of this noble and important metal, this issue deals with a new
use, copper radiators. We are taking part in a higher number
of events where Procobre has an active presence, achieving an
effective diffusion of our objectives. We are also glad to put
at your disposal the new Web page of Procobre Peru in the Internet,
where you will find complete and updated information about the
actions we are taking. We hope you will enjoy reading this issue.

DEFENDING THE USE OF COPPER

|

(Copper
in Peru and in the World)
|
The
copper industry is undergoing a complex situation that
affects the different production processes. |
What to do in this scenario?
According
to Peter Lowick Russel, former Director of the Latin America
Regional Program of the International Copper
Association (ICA), the solution is not in halting the production
levels but in thoroughly developing the institutional promotion
or marketing strategies in order to increase the consumption
and consequently the demand.
Who
must this campaign be aimed at?
The
mining industry is divided into the production sector, the semi-fabrication
industry (pipes, wires, plates), and the final consumption industry
(electronics and construction). As it can be seen, the final
consumer does not make any decision about copper
consumption, "someone makes that decision for him."
That is why the strategy must have two fronts: the first one
towards the agents making the decision, so that they may favor
copper taking as key point for the assessment
the useful life of copper rather than its initial
cost; the second front must be the final user, who benefits
from the use of copper, so that he will apply
pressure on the designer or builder. Such a promotion would
stimulate the demand, resulting in the benefits that the copper
industry needs.
PROCOBRE PERU ORGANIZATION AND MANAGEMENT

Procobre
Peru is a non-profit institution established by copper
mining and transforming companies that join efforts in order
to promote copper consumption in the country.
As organization, it achieves its objectives through an adequate
management of information, outsourcing most of the marketing
and technical advice services.
Procobre
receives the important collaboration of representatives from
the member companies that make up the electrical and education
committees in order to identify and assess the projects related
to each campaign.
The
promotion flow is based on a close coordination of each regional
council, in this case the Latin American council that includes
Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Argentina, and Peru, with the International
Copper Association (ICA).
With
the support of the member companies and collaborating agencies
an effective promotion aimed at the market of copper
and its alloys can be developed.
