EDITORIAL
In
this 1999 second semester informative bulletin, we highlight
the Annual Meeting of the Latin American Copper Council,
whose agenda focused mainly on the challenges of copper
in the next millennium.
In general, our campaigns continue offering interesting
proposals for the promotion of applications of this noble
metal through participation in regulatory and training
activities, such as seminars, courses and fairs, organized
in cooperation with related institutions, both in Lima
and other cities in the provinces.
In our section New Applications, we offer an interesting
proposal by artist Andrea Ponsi. Moreover, access to the
Institution's Data Center will soon be available through
the Internet.
Finally, we present the results of the national summons
to the Contest "Thesis Project on Copper Uses". It was
hard work for the Review Committee to choose a winner
among all the projects due to the participants great talent
and creativity, and it finally selected two projects that
received economic support for their research.
We hope you will enjoy reading this bulletin.

Durante
el mes de marzo se llevo a cabo en la ciudad
de Nueva York en USA, la reunión de los Directores
de los 29 Centros de Promoción de Cobre operando
en Africa, Asia, Europa, América del Norte
y Sur.

La reunión denominada "Aprendiendo entre Nosotros"
organizada por la Asociación Internacional del
Cobre (ICA) sirvió para un intercambio de experiencias
de diversos proyectos con aplicaciones de cobre
y aleaciones.
Asimismo,
se llevo a cabo, en las ciudades de Bogotá y Cali
en Colombia, el seminario "Seguridad y Ahorro
de Energía Eléctrica" con el apoyo del Instituto
Colombiano de Normas Técnicas y Certificación
(ICONTEC) y Centelsa, el principal fabricante
de conductores eléctricos.

ASAMBLEA DE ASOCIADOS Y CONSEJO
Unión de esfuerzos para promover las aplicaciones de
cobre

La
Asamblea de Asociados se reúne una vez al año, durante
el primer trimestre, con la finalidad de evaluar
la gestión, así como las cuentas del balance del
periodo anterior. Asimismo, tiene la responsabilidad
de elegir al Consejo Directivo
|
|
El mandato de este consejo
dura 2 años. Forman parte de éste, cinco miembros:
4 de ellos pertenecen a las empresas minero productoras
y uno a una empresa transformadora. En reuniones
bimensuales se evalúa el nivel de avance de las
campañas, el detalle de los gastos y otros asuntos
de interés. El hecho de que Procobre haya
podido alcanzar sus metas se debe a la participación
activa de sus asociados dado que nuestra gestión
debe ser fiel reflejo de sus intereses.

Simplicity,
versatility and a particular style are characteristics
of the work of Andrea Ponsi. He offers a unique
proposal by using copper "T" couplings to create
furniture and original designs with a simple and
harmonious line. Combining copper, steel and aluminum,
the artist open the doors to a world of possibilities
where inspiration has its roots in the soil and
the admiration and observation of nature together
with the abstraction of form.
